SENSITIVE TEETH

Tooth Sensitivity is caused by the exposure of the dentin,
the internal part of teeth, to the oral environment.
Tooth sensitivity occurs when the dentin loses its natural protection from the tooth enamel and gums, and exposed outside.
CAUSES:
- Tooth wear caused by acidic foods and drinks and gastric problems like gastritis and GERD and gastric ulcers.
- Night grinding.
- Gum recession.
- Tooth wear caused by aggressive tooth brushing.
- Broken tooth where dentin exposes.
- Dental decay where dentin involved.

SYMPTOMS:
- Sensitive to hot and cold foods and acidic drinks.
- Sensitive to cold air and sweet foods.
- Sensitivity while brushing the teeth.
PREVENTION:
- Avoid aggressive tooth brushing & brush for 2-3 minutes twice daily.
- Use soft tooth brush.
- Avoid the tooth paste with high levels of abrasives.
- Floss daily once.
- Avoid acidic beverages and acidic foods.
- If you suspect night grinding habit, consult the doctor and wear night guards.
- Visit the dentist regularly for every 6 months.

- Use of desensitizing agents.
- Use of soft toothbrush.
- Occlusal splints for night grinding.
- Restorations, if caries involves dentin and for tooth wear
