Wisdom teeth problem

IMPACTED WISDOM TEETH

Impacted wisdom teeth are third molars at the back of the mouth that don't have enough room to emerge or develop normally.

Impacted wisdom teeth may cause no apparent or immediate problems. But because they're hard to clean, they may be more vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease than other teeth are. Impacted wisdom teeth that cause pain or other dental complications are usually removed.

Wisdom teeth usually emerge sometime between the ages of 17 and 25.

Symptoms:
Impacted wisdom teeth don't always cause symptoms. However, when an impacted wisdom tooth becomes infected, damages other teeth or causes other dental problems, you may experience some of these signs or symptoms:

·         Red or swollen gums
·         Tender or bleeding gums
·         Jaw pain
·         Swelling around the jaw
·         Bad breath
·         An unpleasant taste in your mouth
·         Difficulty opening your mouth

Complications:
Impacted wisdom teeth can cause several problems in the mouth:
Damage to other teeth. If the wisdom tooth pushes against the second molar, it may damage the second molar or increase the risk of infection in that area. This pressure can also cause problems with crowding of the other teeth or require orthodontic treatment to straighten other teeth.

Impacted wisdom teeth gives pressure on the adjacent tooth results in resorption of the adjacent tooth root.

Decay. Partially impacted wisdom teeth appear to be at higher risk of tooth decay (caries) than other teeth. This probably occurs because wisdom teeth are harder to clean and because food and bacteria get easily trapped between the gum and a partially erupted tooth. Because of impacted tooth, adjacent tooth may get decayed in most cases.

Gum disease. The difficulty cleaning impacted, partially erupted wisdom teeth increases the risk of developing a painful, inflammatory gum condition called pericoronitis in that area.

Cysts. The wisdom tooth develops in a sac within the jawbone. The sac can fill with fluid, forming a cyst that can damage the jawbone, teeth and nerves. Rarely, a tumor — usually noncancerous (benign) — develops. This complication may require removal of tissue and bone.

Prevention:

Regular six-month dental appointments for cleaning and checkups enables your dentist to monitor the growth and emergence of your wisdom teeth. Regularly updated dental X-rays may indicate impacted wisdom teeth before any symptoms develop.

Do you have discolored teeth or spaces between teeth ??

PORCELAIN VENEERS

Porcelain veneers

✒ If you are looking for a dazzling smile, then Porcelain veneers could be the solution you have been looking for. Veneers can correct a multitude of cosmetic defects, from discolored teeth to slightly crooked teeth to gaps in your smile.

CORRECTION OF DISCOLORED TEETH WITH PORCELAIN VENEERS

✒ But will the veneers look like my normal teeth? When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains. For strength and appearance, their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed by other restorative options.

✒ Dental veneers are very thin shells made from tooth-like material designed to cover the front surface of teeth. Most veneers today are made of porcelain because this material resists stains better and has a light-reflecting quality similar to that of natural teeth. The veneers are placed on the front of the teeth, concealing imperfections and sometimes changing the size, shape, and length of teeth.

SPACING CLOSURE WITH
PORCELAIN VENEERS

✒ To make veneers look as natural as possible an impression is taken of your teeth and sent to a dental lab where the veneers are custom made. There are many advantages of veneers, such as:

                     1. Veneers are made of material that mimics natural teeth and are individually shaped for each patient, so it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference between veneers and natural teeth.
2.Unlike other cosmetic options, porcelain veneers won’t be stained by cigarette smoke, coffee, tea, and red wine.
3.The color of veneers can be selected from many whiteness shades. But you may want to resist the temptation to choose the lightest shade, cautions Harms. Blinding-white veneers often don’t look natural.

For healthy teeth, veneers can be a good substitute for crowns (also called caps), which require removal of more of your natural tooth structure.

Clear aligners

INVISALIGN

Clear aligners are an alternative to traditional braces and are designed to help guide teeth into their proper position. Similar to braces, clear aligners use a gradual force to control tooth movement, but without metal wires or brackets.

Invisalign uses customized clear trays that are fitted to your teeth. Every two weeks, you switch to a new set of alignment trays to bring your teeth gradually closer into alignment. The trays apply a controlled force that slowly shifts the teeth until they are eventually straight and aligned. Clear aligners allows visualizing the virtual results and treatment plan before starting the treatment enabling us to see how the straightened teeth will look after completion of treatment.

CLEAR ALIGNERS
IMPROVE YOUR SMILE--
Invisalign straightens crooked and overcrowded teeth, closes gaps, corrects bite abnormalities, and creates an even, straight smile. It does so with a nearly invisible treatment process over time.
BETTER THAN BRACES ?
Invisalign trays are more aesthetically appealing than braces because they are virtually invisible. They are also removable, which makes eating and dental hygiene much easier and less restricting compared to braces. The trays are comfortable and smooth, unlike braces that have metal wires and brackets that can irritate your mouth. This treatment also requires less time in the dentist’s chair for adjustments and fewer office visits.

DOES IT HURT ?
Invisalign trays cause only minor discomfort that is to be expected with moving teeth. This discomfort is more of a feeling of pressure than pain and can typically be felt during the first few days of each new set of trays.
AGE--
Invisalign can be used when all baby teeth have been lost. Patients must also be disciplined enough to wear the trays for 20 to 22 hours per day. Depending on physical and emotional maturity, Invisalign candidates could be as young as 12 or 13.
WHAT FOODS TO EAT AND DRINK--
Since you remove the trays for eating, you can eat anything you like with Invisalign. Always remove the trays when eating meals or snacks.
You can drink anything you like with Invisalign. Be sure to clean your teeth and aligners soon after consuming sugary drinks so as not to trap sugar between them and damage your teeth.

INVISALIGN MADE OF--

Invisalign trays are made of a clear thermoplastic material that is BPA-free.
ARE THEY NOTICEBLE ?
Invisalign trays are clear and custom-made for you, which means they are molded to fit precisely over your teeth. As such, they are virtually invisible.
GOOD FOR TEETH--
Invisalign allows you to achieve straight teeth and maintain optimal oral hygiene through the treatment process. Having straight teeth promotes better dental hygiene, helps prevent tooth decay and plaque buildup, and improves speech and eating function.

IMPROVE DENTAL HEALTH--

During treatment, patients can easily maintain oral hygiene habits for their dental health. By straightening the teeth, Invisalign promotes better dental health because straight teeth make oral hygiene easier and guard against bacterial buildup and abnormal wear on tooth enamel.
TREATMENT DURATION--
Invisalign treatment takes an average of 12 months for adults. This length can vary more significantly for teens.

INVISALIGN MOVE TEETH--

Invisalign aligner trays are fitted directly to your teeth and apply a controlled force that causes certain teeth to shift. Your treatment trays are mapped out specifically for your teeth, and you switch to a new set every two weeks or so. Each new set is slightly different from the previous set and pulls your teeth gradually closer into position.
CARE FOR TRAYS--
A special Invisalign cleaning system can be used to clean the trays. Brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water also sufficient. Brush your teeth after every meal to prevent food residue from staining your trays. Avoid putting the trays in hot water because it can warp the plastic. If your trays warp or crack, contact your dental practitioner right away to get new trays.

HOW OFTEN TO WEAR INVISALIGN ?

Invisalign trays must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day.

WHO SHOULD NOT USE INVISALIGN ?

Patients with baby teeth are not good candidates for Invisalign. Those with severe issues such as large overbites may need more advanced orthodontic procedures. If you are interested in Invisalign, your best option is to schedule a consultation to determine if this treatment is right for you.

HOW OFTEN to CHANGe InVISALIGN TRAYS ?

Your dental practitioner will tell you how often you should exchange your trays. On average, you should switch out your Invisalign trays approximately every two weeks.

AFTER TREATMENT IS COMPLETED--

After Invisalign treatment, you may need to wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original position. Your dentist will determine whether you need a retainer and how often you should wear it.

I’VE ALREADY HAD BRACES--

If you have already had braces and your teeth are still properly aligned, you do not need Invisalign. If your teeth have shifted since you had braces, Invisalign can re-straighten your teeth.

HOW LONG DO INVISALIGN RESULTS LAST ?

The results of Invisalign can last indefinitely. With proper use of a retainer, daily oral hygiene, and regular dental visits, you can maintain a straight, beautiful, and healthy smile long term.

Treating gum disease with lasers.

LANAP (LASER ASSISSTED NEW ATTACHMENT PROCEDURE)

If you have periodontal disease and surgery will be required, it is important to know about the laser surgery called LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure).

ADVANCED PERIODONTAL DISEASE
PERIODONTAL POCKET

LANAP laser gum surgery does not require the use of a blade, or sutures. It is a minimally invasive surgery that results in very little recession and pain for the patient. The laser operates at a wavelength that can tell the difference between the diseased tissue and the healthy tissue. This means that the laser is extremely safe and selective when being used in surgery. For the first time we can remove the diseased tissue and bacteria from your gums without harming, cutting, or removing healthy tissue!

The laser light is delivered via a very small fiber optic about the width of 3 human hairs that is directed precisely at the tissues in question. This color of light is transmitted through normal cells like sunlight through a windowpane, but it seeks out and “vaporizes” the darkly pigmented bacteria known to cause periodontitis.

The laser’s benefits are based on its ability to remove the sub-gingival diseased connective tissue and pocket lining, and to kill bacteria.

Once the diseased lining cells of the periodontal pockets are destroyed with the laser, the root surfaces of the teeth are thoroughly cleaned with ultrasonic scalers. After the root surfaces are cleaned, the living cells in the supporting bone are stimulated to release growth factors. Bleeding, a normal part of any surgery, is stabilized by the laser.

The LANAP procedure developed for periodontal gum treatment is minimally invasive and can result in less tissue removal and bleeding, plus less discomfort and tissue shrinkage (gum recession) than conventional periodontal surgery — and without scalpels or sutures.
Difference between traditional gum surgery and laser surgery:

                    FLAP SURGERY                                          LASER SURGERY (LANAP)

1) Need a scalpel to cut and reflect the gum          1) No need of blades.                                    tissue back to clean pocket.
2) Use of flaps or bone grafting materials to           2) No need of flap or bone graft materials      achieve reattachment of gum tissue to                   because living cells stimulation done        root surface.                                                            to release growth factors, to form new                                                                                      attachment.
3) Painful and require pain medication.                  3) Less discomfort.
4) Expect more recession of gum tissue.               4) Little to no recession of gum tissue.
5) Healing time is slow.                                          5) Faster healing time.
6) Food restriction will be there for 2-3 days.         6) No food restrictions.
7) Sutures needed.                                                 7) No need of sutures.
8) Done in 4 sittings- 4 quadrants.                          8) All at a time one sitting.
9) Restricted mouth opening.                                  9) No mouth opening restrictions.
10) Without placement of bone graft material         10) Bone formation is seen without bone         there is no bone formation.                                     graft material placement.
11) More bleeding seen.                                          11) Bleeding is minimal.

CONCLUSION:

It is important to keep in mind that lasers can’t simply cure gum disease with a single zap. Rather, control of periodontal (gum) disease and maintenance of health is an ongoing process dependent upon: long-term daily oral hygiene (biofilm control); regular periodontal maintenance at the dental office (often at three-month intervals); and professional monitoring and evaluation.
