Pain in teeth

TOOTHACHE

Toothache is any pain or soreness within or around a tooth.

In most instances, toothaches are caused by teeth or jaw problems, such as

DENTAL CAVITY

        dental caries,
        a cracked tooth,
        an exposed tooth root,
        broken tooth or jaw,
        mouth ulcers,
        periapical infection (around root),
disease of the jaw joint (temporo- mandibular joint), or spasms of the muscles used for chewing.

TMJ PAIN

Types of toothache:

  • mild
  • moderate
  • severe
  • dull
  • sharp
The pain may be aggravated by chewing or by having cold or heat foods.
Oral examination, which includes dental X-rays, can help to determine the cause, and whether the toothache is coming from a tooth or jaw problem.

Dealing with toothache:
  • Analgesics when taken orally, can reduce pain until a dentist examine the teeth.
  • Rinse the mouth with salt water.
  • Use dental floss or water flosser to remove any food between teeth.
  • Limit too hot or cold foods that aggrevate pain.

Conclusion:
  • No toothache will heal on its own. A toothache needs to be treated as soon as possible.
  • If toothache caused by a tooth infection the dentist may recommend antibiotic therapy and other treatments, like root canal treatment or extraction.

  • To prevent tooth decay, maintain good oral hygiene.Dentists carryout sealants and fluoride applications for preventing tooth decay.

Make sure to fix an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible if you are having a toothache.
