2020 - Resolutions for a healthy mouth

NEW YEAR - NEW SMILE

The new year is the perfect time to design resolutions for establishing healthy oral habits.
Oral health is a major component of overall health.

Here are some resolutions for healthy mouth and beautiful smile:

  • See your dentist for every six months
Regular dental visits help to prevent any dental health problems before they cause discomfort or before they require more comprehensive or expensive treatment.

  • Take your infant or toddler to see a dentist
Your child's first dental visit should be as soon as child's first tooth erupts. Your dentist will show you how to lower the chances of your child getting cavities.

  • Brushing twice daily for two minutes
Tooth brush should be changed whenever the toothbrush bristles got flared or two months once. Brushing protects your teeth by removing plaque that builds up on your teeth everyday.

  • Floss daily once
Flossing can remove plaque in between the teeth, where tooth brush can't access and avoid cavities in between the teeth.

  • Eat healthy diet
Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits. Limit the snacks in between the meals. Healthy and balanced diet will give good oral health along with overall health and freshens the breath.

  • Quit smoking and alcohol intake
Smoking increases the risk for both gum disease and oral cancer. Alcohol intake leads to dry mouth followed by gum disease and cavities.

For this new year, resolve to treat your oral health: improve your diet, quit smoking and improve your oral hygiene habits.
Wish you all have a healthy happy new year !!

Dental visits or dental checkups - oral health maintanance

DENTAL CHECK UP - IMPORTANCE

Irregular or delayed dental check ups will cause huge number of problems to our oral health.
Many of the people ignore the oral health when compared to the overall health.
People will allow the problems to develop before they actually visit the dentist.

Some common issues that left unchecked:
  • Bleeding gums - gum bleeding and inflamed gums followed by periodontal pocket formation results in bone loss & causing the tooth loss.
Visiting the dentist regularly can ensure your gum health properly maintained and early treatments prevents further serious conditions.
    GINGIVITIS

    PERIODONTITIS
  • Tooth sensitivity - when there is initial decay, you may experience tooth sensitivity & in this stage we can save the tooth with filling, if delayed the decay may go to deeper layers and cause tooth pain, by this time treatment option will change.

    COMPOSITE FILLING FOR INITIAL DECAY

    COMPOSITE FILLING FOR DECAYED TOOTH

  • Tooth pain - Tooth pain comes mostly because of deep decay cases, sometimes tooth pain may be overlooked with help of over-the-counter medication, at that time pain may subside but the decay may go extensive.
In early intervention tooth can be saved by root canal treatment and in delayed cases tooth may needs to be removed and go for replacement.

For adults and children, six months once dental visit is compulsory. If any medical health condition is there three months once dental visit is preferable.

CONCLUSION:

Because of regular dental visits so many problems we can prevent with early intervention.
Early treatments are cost effective when compared to tooth replacements, crowns and gum therapy.

Visiting the dentist should be a regular part of our schedule.
And it's time to give priority to your oral health.

why do you need a dental checkup

REGULAR DENTAL VISITS

A regular dental visit is important because they help keep your teeth and gums healthy. You should have a regular dental visit at least every 6 months or as recommended by your dental professional.

What happens at your dental visit?
Regular dental visit –  examination and the cleaning, or oral prophylaxis.
At the dental check up your dental professional will check for cavities. X-rays might be taken to see the progression of  cavities in/between your teeth.

It will also include a check for deposits on your teeth. You cannot remove hard deposits with brushing and flossing so you need a dental professional to do cleaning. This is called scaling.

Next, your gums will be checked. The check-up also includes a careful examination of y
our tongue, throat, face, head, and neck. This is to look for any signs of swelling, redness.

After dental visit:

Be sure to take care of your teeth and gums. Some tips for good oral care are --

  • Brush your teeth atleast twice a day.
  • Floss daily.
  • Use a mouthwash this will  help to keep your breath fresh.
  • You should have a regular dental visit at least twice a year or as recommended by your dental professional.

Conclusion:

Regular dental visits are important because your dental professional will check your overall oral health and make your teeth and gums healthy.
