X-rays reveals
- The extent of tooth decay.
- Bone loss.
- Presence of cysts / tumours.
- Impacted wisdom teeth.
- Presence of infection.
Types of dental x-rays:
- Panoramic - full mouth x-ray (OPG).
- Periapical - entire single tooth from crown to root along with the surrounding area of that tooth.
- Bitewing - few upper and lower teeth mainly crown portions.
- Cephalometric projections - side view of entire head for orthodontic and jaw related treatments.
- Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) - 3 dimensional images of dental structures, soft tissue, nerves and bone for dental surgery related cases like cysts and dental implants.
