TOOTH PASTE

TOOTHPASTE

Toothpaste is a key part of your daily oral hygiene routine. Along with your toothbrush and floss, it helps to remove food debris and plaque from your teeth and gums.
TOOTH POWDER

TOOTH PASTE

Toothpastes can come in a gel, paste or powder form. While the ingredients differ slightly, all toothpastes contain the same general components:
  • Mild abrasive.
  • Humectants.
  • Flavoring agents.
  • Thickening agents.
  • Detergent.
They may have all the same basic ingredients, but all toothpastes are not the same. Depending on the toothpaste, other ingredients can also be added for other benefits. Here are some important things to keep in mind when choosing your toothpaste:

  • Decay prevention. Fluoride is a natural cavity fighter helps to strengthen tooth enamel and fight tooth decay. Not all toothpastes contain fluoride. Be sure to always use toothpaste containing this cavity-fighting mineral.
  • Plaque and gingivitis. Several toothpaste contain active ingredients that can fight plaque and gingivitis, an early form of gum disease.
  • Whitening. If you’re looking for a little extra sparkle in your smile, “whitening” toothpastes have special chemical or polishing agents that help remove more surface stains than regular toothpastes.
  • Desensitizing. If you have sensitive teeth, you may want to consider using a desensitizing toothpaste. These contain compounds which help to reduce tooth sensitivity.
Conclusion:

Whatever the toothpaste you use you should follow the proper brushing technique to achieve good oral health.

Treatment to dental fluorosis

FLUOROSIS TREATMENT

DENTAL FLUOROSIS
In many cases, fluorosis is so mild that no treatment is needed. Or, it may only affect the back teeth where it can’t be seen.
DENTAL FLUOROSIS

The appearance of teeth affected by moderate-to-severe fluorosis can be significantly improved by a variety of techniques. Most of them are aimed at masking the stains.
Such techniques may include:
  • Tooth whitening and other procedures to remove surface stains; note that bleaching teeth may temporarily worsen the appearance of fluorosis.

  • Bonding, which coats the tooth with a hard resin that bonds to the enamel
  • Crowns
    CROWNS
  • Veneers, which are custom-made shells that cover the front of the teeth to improve their appearance; these are used in cases of severe fluorosis.
  • MI Paste, a calcium phosphate product that is sometimes combined with methods like microabrasion to minimize tooth discoloration.
    BEFORE AND AFTER MICROABRASION
CONCLUSION:

Dental fluorosis has great social and psychological impact on quality of life. Treatment of dental fluorosis is highly required as dissatisfaction with self appearance is increasing with increasing level of dental fluorosis.

Smokeless tobacco is not a healthy alternative to smoking. Quitting is the only way to decrease your risk of these and other tobacco-related health problems.

The addictive quality of nicotine, which is found in cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco, can make this quitting difficult. Talk to your dentist or doctor to see if the medications available would help you to stop using tobacco.

Grinding of teeth

TEETH GRINDING / BRUXISM
Grinding your teeth or clenching your jaws. It's called bruxism, and often it happens as you sleep.

TEETH GRINDING

JAW CLENCHING

Teeth grinding can be caused not just by stress and anxiety but by sleep disorders, an abnormal bite or teeth that are missing or crooked. People who drink alcohol and smokers are approximately twice as likely to grind their teeth.

CROOKED TEETH

JAW SORENESS
The symptoms of teeth grinding include:

MOUTH GUARD
Your dentist can fit you with a mouth guard to protect your teeth during sleep. In some cases, your dentist or physician may recommend taking a muscle relaxant before bedtime. If stress is the cause you need to find a way to relax. Meditation, counseling and exercise can all help reduce stress and anxiety.
MEDITATION
Teeth grinding is also common in children. However, because their teeth and jaws change and grow so quickly it is not usually a damaging habit that requires treatment and most outgrow it by adolescence.

TEETH GRINDING IN CHILDREN

Although in adults teeth grinding is often the result of stress, the same is not always true with children. Other possible causes of teeth grinding in children include:
  • irritation in the mouth
  • allergies
  • misaligned teeth
If you’re concerned about your child’s teeth grinding, ask your child’s dentist about the potential causes and, if necessary, the possible solutions.
