Tooth colored fillings

COMPOSITE  FILLINGS

A composite filling is a tooth-colored material used to restore decayed teeth. Composites are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth.

BEFORE AND AFTER COMPOSITE BUILDUP

Composite placement:

Following preparation, the dentist places the composite in layers, typically using a light specialized to harden each layer. When the process is finished, the dentist will shape the composite to fit the tooth. The dentist then polishes the composite to prevent staining and early wear.
LIGHT CURING

Advantages of composites:

Aesthetics are the main advantage of composites, since dentists can blend shades to create a color nearly identical to that of the actual tooth. Composites bond to the tooth to support the remaining tooth structure, which helps to prevent breakage and insulate the tooth from excessive temperature changes.

Disadvantages of composites:

After receiving a composite, a patient may experience postoperative sensitivity. Also, the shade of the composite can change slightly if the patient drinks tea, coffee or other staining foods. The dentist can put a clear plastic coating over the composite to prevent the color from changing if a patient is particularly concerned about tooth color.

CONCLUSION:

Composites have acquired a prominent place among the filling materials. their considerable aesthetic possibilities give rise to a variety of therapeutic indications. The use of a proven enamel and dentin bonding system, combined with accurate layering techniques, will enable the dentist to obtain excellent composite restorations while preserving tooth structure.

How will the implants be placed --

First, implants, which looks like screws or cylinders, are placed into your jaw. Over the next two to six months, the implants and the bone are allowed to bond together to form anchors. During this time, a temporary teeth replacement option can be worn over the implant sites.
Often, a second step of the procedure is necessary to uncover the implants and attach extensions. These temporary healing caps complete the foundation on which your new teeth will be placed. Your gums will be allowed to heal for a couple of weeks following this procedure.

Conventional dentures vs implant supported dentures

Differences between conventional dentures and implant supported dentures

False teeth are false teeth, right? Once your natural teeth are gone, it doesn’t matter what you replace them with. There are a few options available for replacing teeth- traditional dentures or implant-supported dentures. There are some very significant differences between these two techniques. If you keep these differences in mind, you can make the best decision for your lifestyle:

CONVENTIONAL DENTURES

Conventional dentures are designed to conform to the shape of your mouth. Your gums and the underlying bone structure support these dentures. The dentures rub against your gums and often create sore spots. Many people feel that a traditional denture is the best option for replacing teeth. These dentures are removable and cleaned outside the mouth.
CONVENTIONAL DENTURES
IMPLANT SUPPORTED DENTURES
An implant-supported prosthesis is a denture, which is both retained and supported by four or more dental implants. This means that the denture does not rest on the gums. Rather, it is fixed on implants, which are embedded in bone. Only your dentist will remove the denture for cleaning and examination. Other than that, it stays inside your mouth for life.

NEW YEAR 2018 RESOLUTIONS

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS FOR
A HEALTHY SMILE

With the new year approaching, you may have already begun to think about your New Year’s resolutions. Many people set new goals about having a healthier lifestyle in the new year. Why not make one of your New Year’s resolutions improving your dental health?

Healthy resolutions can keep your teeth healthy, and any of the following strategies will go a long way toward giving you a brighter, healthier smile in the coming year:

Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables

Eating well is important for your dental health. Poor nutrition can affect the entire immune system, increasing susceptibility to many common oral disorders, including gum (periodontal) disease. Antioxidants and other nutrients found in fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts improve your body’s ability to fight bacteria and inflammation, helping to protect your teeth and gums. In addition, crisp fruits and raw vegetables like apples, carrots and celery help clean plaque from teeth and freshen breath.

Quit Smoking or Using Other Tobacco Products

Using tobacco can harm your mouth in a number of ways, increasing your risk for toothdiscoloration, cavities, gum recession, gum disease and throat, lung and oral cancer. Smokers are about twice as likely to lose their teeth as non-smokers. It’s not just smoking tobacco that has negative effects on your oral health: use of smokeless tobacco can be just as harmful to your oral health. The good news is that the risk of tooth loss decreases after you quit smoking or using smokeless tobacco.

Limit Your Alcohol Intake

You may already know that excessive alcohol intake can have an effect on your overall health, but did you know that it may also affect your oral health? Those who smoke, eat poorly and consume excessive alcohol also have increased gum recession (periodontalpocketing).

Brush atleast Twice a Day and Floss atleast Once a Day

Brushing and flossing protect your teeth from decay and gum disease, which is caused by your teeth’s most persistent enemy, plaque – a sticky, colorless, invisible film of harmful bacteria that builds up on your teeth every day. Both brushing and flossing are equally important for good oral health, only flossing can remove plaque from between teeth and below the gumline, where decay and gum disease often begins.

Without proper brushing and flossing, you may develop bleeding gums, which may worsen to severely swollen, red, bleeding gums (gingivitis) and, eventually, gum disease. Because diseases of the mouth can affect the rest of your body, it is especially important to maintain good oral health.

See Your Dentist for Regular Checkups

By seeing your dentist at least twice a year, you can help prevent any dental health problems before they cause discomfort or require more comprehensive or expensive treatment. Regular visits allow your dentist to monitor your oral health and recommend a dental health regimen to address areas of concern.

For this new year, resolve to treat your mouth right: improve your diet, quit smoking and improve your oral hygiene habits – your teeth and your body will thank you for it!
