Correction of malaligned teeth without braces

INVISIBLE ALIGNERS

Everybody wants a perfect smile with beautifully aligned teeth. But sometimes to do that you need orthodontic correction of teeth. Many patients specially adults shy away from braces because of various factors. Now-a-days it is possible to correct the alignment of teeth without the traditional metal wires and braces. It is done by using Invisalign/ Invisible aligners.
They are not like traditional braces. There are no wires, brackets or elastics. Invisible braces are a series of removable clear aligners that move the teeth like traditional braces. These aligners are customized individually for the patients according to their treatment plan. The aligners are changed for every 2 weeks to get the desired result.

Advantages of Invisible braces over traditional braces-

·         No metal – These clear aligners replace the metal wires and brackets so no metal is visible during the treatment. Most people won’t know that you are having orthodontic treatment. So patients feel more confident socially and at the workplace.
·         Comfort – If for any reason, the wearer of teeth aligners wishes to remove them for brief periods of time (to eat or drink), he or she may easily do so.
Diet - There is no restrictions in diet but in traditional braces sticky and hard foods to be avoided.
·         Less chances of caries- The brackets of conventional braces can often have plaque buildup that results in caries. Clear aligners do not cause any caries in teeth.
·         Better gum health- Invisible braces allow you to brush and floss teeth normally. So the patient has healthy gums and teeth as compared to the traditional braces that make gums sore and are difficult to clean.
·         Duration of treatment- The time taken to complete the treatment with Invisalign is less than the duration of traditional braces.

Cavities to milk tooth

DENTAL CARIES IN DECIDUOUS TEETH

Tooth decay begins as a superficial lesion which appears as a white spots on the tooth enamel. However, if no appropriate treatment is given early, the decay may development into a deep cavity inside the tooth, penetrate into its tissues and cause inflammatory process. Dental caries mostly affects the teeth that perform the masticatory function, upper milk incisors.

CAUSES:
  • Poor oral hygiene.
  • Excess consumption of carbohydrates.
  • Continuous use of pacifiers and feeding bottles in night.
  • Fluoride deficiency in child's nutrition.
SYMPTOMS:

  • White or brown spots which cannot be washed away.
  • Unpleasant feeling while eating.
  • Child chews food only with one side of teeth may be an indicator of toothache.

    EARLY DECAY- WHITE SPOT LESION

    MODERATE DECAY

    SEVERE DECAY
TREATMENT:

If carious part doesn't involve soft tissues, called pulp, filling alone is enough to save the tooth.

If caries involve inner soft tissue, then the carious part of the tooth and soft tissues that are infected by bacteria, are cleaned then sterilised & filled. This process called as pulpectomy. This procedure followed by a crown

Thus, the treated deciduous tooth will be functional until it is replaced by the permanent tooth.

PREVENTION:

  • Start brushing your kids teeth when first tooth erupts in the mouth.
  • Well balanced nutrition.
  • Make sure that sufficient amount of fluoride is there in drinking water.
  • Regular dental examinations for every 6 months.
